Myers Park Mortgage Bubbafest Bluegrass Jam chooses
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as a beneficiary of their
proceeds to help Find a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes
Charlotte, NC – October
2009
If you were passing through the Myers Park community last Saturday,
there is a good chance you may have heard the sweet tunes of Bluegrass
bands and a gathering unlike many others. These were the sounds of
the third annual Bubbafest Bluegrass Jam, hosted by Myers Park Mortgage
at the home of Charles and Elizabeth Myers. Over 300 individuals attended
the family-friendly event and enjoyed plenty of BBQ, laughs, good conversation,
family activities and live music to keep them going all night.

Bubbafest, originally named Chollyfest, was renamed last year in honor
of Bubba Brickell, a close lifelong friend of Charles Myers, President
and Owner of Myers Park Mortgage. Last year, a few days prior to Chollyfest,
Bubba suffered complications from his Type 2 diabetes and passed away.
Last year Charles decided that renaming Chollyfest to Bubbafest and
having the proceeds benefit JDRF was a clear decision. Charles was
also asked by his good friend and JDRF Board Member, Tim Groody, whose
10 year old daughter Kaitlyn was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, that
Bubbafest provide support to the JDRF organization in 2008 and moving
forward for years to come. Charles was more than happy to oblige to
his request. In 2008, Bubbafest raised over $13,000 and this year the
event was proud to raise over $20,000 for JDRF.
Myers Park Mortgage is not a company that buys traditional advertising
on billboards or through media outlets. They would rather get their
name recognized by providing support in the community through their
charity work. From day one of opening their business Myers Park Mortgage’s
priority has been to build trust and do the right thing. Charles received
an early education in philanthropy from his mother, Caroline Myers,
who started the Crisis Assistance Ministry in Charlotte, and he plans
to continue her footsteps of giving back to his community through his
charitable work.
The Bubbafest Bluegrass Jam is one of the many ways that Myers Park
Mortgage will continue to support JDRF. This event brings the community
together each year to increase awareness and raise critically needed
funds for Type 1 diabetes research. This is a cause that Myers Park
Mortgage has chosen to embrace and hopes that many more individuals
will support the foundation as well.

About JDRF
JDRF was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with type 1 diabetes
- a disease that strikes children, adolescents, and adults suddenly,
makes them insulin dependent for life, and carries the constant threat
of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided
more than $1.16 billion to diabetes research worldwide. More than
85 percent of JDRF's expenditures directly support research and research-related
education. JDRF's mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes
and its complications through the support of research. For more information
